Ellesmere Mere and local area
Ellesmere and its beautiful mere is only 1.8 miles away and is an easy walk. You can hire boats, walk/run footpaths, visit the local farm shop & cafe at Oteley Estate (that sells its own home grown beef and lamb), and dine at the Boathouse restaurant right next to the mere. Visit the local Shropshire Gin distillery and take a tour!

Personally, we recommend Bobby's for Mexican cuisine, La Piazzeta for Italian, or the Giggling Squid!
Best pubs ~ The Sun (only 2 minutes walk!), The Dickin Arms, The Swan at Marbury, The Cholmondeley Arms (my mum's old school house!), Henlle Hall (best Indian), The Bistro or The Swan at Pontfadog.
Fun Outdoor Activities
As we are out in the country, you can find plenty to do outdoors, from paddle boarding, canoeing or rafting to hiking, clay shooting and ballooning. Or perhaps test your driving skills at Rednal Karting.

Historic Sites To Visit
Whether its the rich Roman heritage at Chester or the vibrant atmosphere in Shrewsbury, or the many castles in the surrounding area, there's plenty to explore!
Try Chirk Castle, Erddig Hall, Powis Castle, or further afield to Conway and Caernarfon Castle in North Wales. These some truly impressive heritage sites around.
Chester
Chester is 28 miles away but well worth the trip. It boasts the most complete city walls, the oldest racecourse and the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain, plus a 1000 year old Cathedral with Europe's finest example of medieval carvings - and of course the one and only 700 year old Tudor ‘Rows’ shopping galleries. There are so many great places to eat! Make time too for Chester Zoo, the most visited attraction outside London and home to 35,000 animals or slow the pace down and view the city from a rowing boat on the scenic river Dee.
